Impact Frequency Soundness Test

Product Summary
This product describes procedures for determining the fundamental transverse frequency and quality factor of concrete prism specimens for nondestructively evaluating the condition of the concrete. The measurements of fundamental frequencies are also used to compute dynamic Young's modulus of elasticity.
The questionnaire survey (see Figure 24 and Table 24) indicated that this product was not well accepted by the states. Three states rejected the product after evaluation. Nine states indicated no interest in the product. No states indicated they are using this product.
An AASHTO test method (TP 18-94) was developed based on SHRP Product 2019. The test method is entitled Standard Test Method for Determining the Fundamental Transverse Frequency and Quality Factor of Concrete Prism Specimens. This provisional standard was first published in March 1995.
